7 Tips for Sleeping in a Tent

  • Tip. 1 : Choose the right bedding
There are a tons of bedding options to choose from in the market for tent camping. Make sure that the product you choose packs small and inflates comfortably. This will allow you to stay off the ground and of course gives you the ability to regulate the firmness. If you're bringing your car with you to the camping site, you would better bring an extra egg crate mattress pad to throw over your camping pad for a super additional comfort.

Pillows can make a huge difference when it comes to staying warm in your tent. So don't forget to backpack a small one within your camping equipments.

  • Tip. 2 : Deal with noises

When trying to sleep in a tent, you have two choices. First let the sounds of nature lull you to sleep, and by that i mean the chirping and screeching of bugs. And second; block the noises using ear plugs.
If you're a light sleeper like me, you will need those tiny, cheap and disposable ear plugs' to sleep in peace. So don't forget to pack them whenever you plan on sleeping somewhere new.

Also you can use technology to quickly fall asleep, like you're sleeping next to a peacefully trickling stream. For that i use some smart phone apps like this one : NatureSound Relax and Sleep

  • Tip. 3 : Control the temperature
One other very important element to take in consideration is the temperature.
In the wild, night time can get super cold even in the summer, especially if you are doing mountain camping at higher altitudes.

So before you jump in your car make sure that you've checked all the weather informations about your camp site, and also verify that your sleeping bag is made for the right temperature.

Just a reminder : sleeping bag liners can add up to 25 degrees of warmth.

To stay warm in your tent during cold wild nights, i'm gonna show you a very famous trick, The hot water bottle trick.
Boil some water and carefully pour it into a plastic water bottle, close the lid tightly and place it in your sleeping bag before you jump into it.
with this trick, you've transformed an ordinary cold sleeping bag into a warm jacuzzi sleeping bag ready to cover you with warm love

  • Tip. 4 : Don't be lazy
The reason why you decided to go camping is mostly because you are tired of the boring everyday life. Once you're in the camping site you must take advantage of you; being there, and experience new things. so instead of sitting down all day eating hot dogs go ahead and practice some hiking, fishing and paddling.

Sleeping in a tent is a lot better after a full day of exciting activities. Since there's less to do outdoors when the sun goes down, plan to sleep early.

  • Tip. 5 : Tent placement
Of course you don't want your camping equipment to slide into one of your tent corners. Or sleeping upside down and forcing your blood to rush towards your head.

So to be comfortable in your tent, pitch it on a flat surface and organize your camping gear so they won't move anywhere.

  • Tip. 6 : Be clean
I know that it feels great to not temporarily care about staying fresh all day. But it doesnt mean that you won't clean your self at the end of the day be cause no one enjoy sleeping in a tent with someone who smells like the trails they hiked that day.

You can use a sock or bandanna to sponge bathe in a creek or water jug, and for additional cleanness bring along some baby wipes.

  • Tip. 7 : Stay dry
I think that every body don't like to stay wet all day, or even worst to sleep wet. So if you're like me and you don't want anything of this happens to you, stay away from water puddles.

Don't forget to bring a waterproof tarp when camping, because these traps can be used as a footprint under your tent to keep water from seeping through the seams, and can even be thrown over top of the tent for more rain protection.
